Types of Therapy
I use a variety of therapy modalities, depending on your situation and needs. The following highlight my most commonly used methods.
Gottman Method
Developed by Dr. John Gottman and his wife, Julie through years of research and relationship counseling. The Gottman method helps couples identify defensiveness in their relationships and build more intimacy and strategies for successful relationships.
Imago Relationship Therapy
Developed by Harville Hendrix and his wife, Helen LaKelly Hunt, Imago is the concept of a “conscious marriage”, with the goal of understanding our childhood needs and wounds, and encourages discussion about how these later become sensitives and conflict in your adult relationships. It helps build intimacy and satisfaction in marriage (Hendrix, LaKelly Hunt, Hannah, Luquet, 2005)
Solution Focused Therapy
Invites couples to envision the positive changes they aspire for and is best used for resolving specific problems in marriages.
EMDR
A somatic approach to healing trauma. EMDR is an 8 Phase, comprehensive trauma treatment therapy that helps people heal from traumatic events and life disturbing experiences by activating the brains inherent system to process and integrate the stuck information and will increase the client’s awareness, internal stability and build resilience (Shapiro, 2018)
Premarital Counseling
Prepares engaged couples for marriage by discussing several important issues, ranging from finances, children, religion, conflict, etc…so the couple understands where their partner stands on these topics and feels more equipped with tools to navigate conflict in marriage more successfully.
Christian Counseling
Utilizing the bible as the foundation and map for approaching marriage, raising children, relationships, conflict, etc… Utilizing scripture as our hope and accountability, as well as prayer as our intercessor for change and guidance.
